Skylines (Skyline 3) went beyond my expectations by not only being a fitting end to a not so special trilogy but by being the best of the 3-part film series.

It makes more use of its low budget than its higher budgeted counterparts. Technically, the 1st Skyline was a thriller, the 2nd was more action-orientated and this 3rd outing proved to be a combination of both. With a likeable cast who you have also probably seen on various TV shows and with a special appearance by a real-life martial artist,

Skylines is a love it or hate kind of movie. But if you watch it with an open mind you'll enjoy it. And the best part is that you don't need to view its predecessors to relish the amazing direction/writing by Liam O'Donnell. I look forward to viewing his future work. Skylin3s is definitely one of the most underrated flicks of 2020 - and my favorite sci-fi feature of this year.

I watched Beyond Skyline's prequel Skyline when it came out in 2010. That was advertized as the next Cloverfield and it still delivered. I gave that one a 2 out of 4 as it belonged to the "hate it or love it" category. I could say the same for Beyond Skyline (2017).

You'll be impressed by the hard work that was done to not make this movie look like a low budget one. Truthfully, if this sequel had a larger budget like this year's Alien Covenant then the former would've been a fully superior exhibition. Beyond Skyline also hits the right notes in regards to it being a B-movie; with the ruggedly handsome Frank Grillo playing the main role, an attractive leading heroine (Bojana Novakovic), and unexpected big names from a smaller but high-on-impact Indonesian film industry: Iko Uwais (The Raid: Redemption, The Raid 2, Headshot) and his frequent co-star Yayan Ruhian. Even though the primary storyline is badly written; extremely predictable—you'll notice that the Indonesian stars weren't cast for nothing. O

ne thing that could've saved this flick from mediocrity was promoting itself as a comedy-action feature like those more popular entries in Edgar Wright's filmography (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz). This is because you'll laugh out loud at sequences you shouldn't and vice versa. Hopefully, director Liam O'Donnell should get more chances at making bigger budget sci-fi ventures, even though Beyond Skyline is still a far cry from District 9. Yet again you don't see that movie's filmmaker Neill Blomkamp's directorial credit on any picture nowadays.

It's back to basics with Jigsaw (2017).

The problem with the torture-porn genre is that some people view their examples while expecting slow shots and a storyline that'll be uplifting in the end. In this installment's script, I'm sure there wasn't any trace of positivity, but the existential question of whether the characters, or the viewers, found redemption is one that has always be an ever-present element of the horror ventures.

The plot is so foreseeable that regardless of you having watched any of the previous films, you'll end up guessing 90% of the story's follow-through  just 30 minutes into the 90-minute running-time.

The traps were crafted with extreme creativity this time around however far-fetched and physically improbable they may have seemed. They still kept the suspense pumping in a motion-picture with no lack of bloody sequences.

This has turned out to be one of my favorite parts of the franchise alongside SAW, SAW 2, SAW 4, and SAW 7.
This is the eighth entry and I'm sure it'll be followed by a sequel/spin-off owing to the series' tradition of being critically flawed but commercially successful.

And there's an abundant amount of nostalgia for long-time fans, including me, that I was naturally left craving for more when the closing credits appeared.

The saving grace of Jigsaw is that it wasn't a reboot, and in this day and age of Hollywood restarting almost everything, could you ask for anything more?

Wrong Turn (2021) is a reboot which not only succeeds the 2003 but is perhaps the first horror-thriller remake that is actually awesome.

The director and writer were very clever as the movie's first 20 minutes bait you into believing that the scenes ahead are going to be super predictable but the plot's unforseeable further into the film. The last 10 minutes have 2-3 Nolan-esque which is very rare for a flick of this genre. Overall, the movie doesn't do anything new with its cultish overtones, but within its own category, it's still better than the two The Hills Have Eyes remakes which were released during this century.

Happy Death Day 2U Poster

Finally, a horror sequel which (kind of) does justice to the original. Jessica Rothe shines again in her lead performance and is complemented by a stellar supporting cast. The film is fast-paced from the get-go, and though its plot relies on repetition, it never gets monotonous story-wise.

After watching 2017's Happy Death Day, you'd wonder if there was any scope for a sequel. But director-writer Christopher Landon has surprised us with one of the best horror sequels of the the 2010s.

However, this comedy-horror flick is ultimately let down by an emphasis on comedy. It wasn't able to balance both genres like its prequel did so successfully. Furthermore, the plot is super predictable and outlandish (even for a movie of its type).

In the end, Happy Death Day 2U is a satisfying thrill ride. It might not gratify all audiences, but it will definitely satisfy lovers of the original.

NICOLAS CAGE IS BACK! Boy, he should play the villain more often. He was amazing as the baddie in 1995's Kiss of Death. I'm sad it took more than a decade to see him in a similar, albeit crazier, role here.

The Babysitter, Happy Death Day and Get Out were branded as last year's best horror comedies. This one is a strong contender for the 2018 title.

P.S. This is Cage's first awesome movie since 2013's Joe. Also, Mom & Dad will make you think before having children.

It's like the comic version of Training Day. Although, the jokes are repetitive and the scenes are sometimes too cliched, Get Hard (2015) is a great comedy.

Will Ferrell's consistency in his mild-mannered persona and Kevin Hart's persistent attitude is what drives this feature. So, have a watch if you want your explicit sense of humor to Get Hard, pun intended.
