Happy Death Day 2U - A Worthy Horror Comedy Sequel
Finally, a horror sequel which (kind of) does justice to the original. Jessica Rothe shines again in her lead performance and is complemented by a stellar supporting cast. The film is fast-paced from the get-go, and though its plot relies on repetition, it never gets monotonous story-wise.
After watching 2017's Happy Death Day, you'd wonder if there was any scope for a sequel. But director-writer Christopher Landon has surprised us with one of the best horror sequels of the the 2010s.
However, this comedy-horror flick is ultimately let down by an emphasis on comedy. It wasn't able to balance both genres like its prequel did so successfully. Furthermore, the plot is super predictable and outlandish (even for a movie of its type).
In the end, Happy Death Day 2U is a satisfying thrill ride. It might not gratify all audiences, but it will definitely satisfy lovers of the original.
The Rating: 3 out of 4.
