What a snore-fest of a film. Director Henry Hobson does his best to secure a dark atmosphere in contrast to an ill-lightened script. But Maggie, like many nocturnal dramas of late, is another failure.

The father-trying-to-do-everything-for-his-daughter message is addressed well throughout. Regardless, the emotions on screen are tragically misplaced.

Arnold Schwarzenegger gave the performance of a lifetime, but he can't be deemed the saving grace of the movie, because writer John Scott 3 did not leave anything to be salvaged from this desolation land.

The Rating: 2 out of 5.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of this classic John Carpenter film and also one of my favorites. The film is also on DVD and blu-ray. Happy 40th anniversary to John Carpenter's Escape from New York, one of the most popular science fiction movies from 1981.

40 years ago today on July 10th 1981, Escape from New York made its debut in theaters in the United States of America. It is a 1981 American science fiction action film co-written, co-scored and directed by John Carpenter.

It stars Kurt Russell, Lee Van Cleef, Donald Pleasence, Ernest Borgnine, Isaac Hayes, Adrienne Barbeau, and Harry Dean Stanton. The film's storyline, set in the near-future world of 1997, concerns a crime-ridden United States, which has converted Manhattan Island in New York City into the country's maximum-security prison. Air Force One is hijacked by insurgents and is deliberately crashed in New York City. Ex-soldier and current federal prisoner Snake Plissken (Russell) is given just 24 hours to go in and rescue the President of the United States, after which, if successful, Snake will be pardoned.

Carpenter wrote the film in the mid-1970s in reaction to the Watergate scandal. After the success of Halloween (1978), he had enough influence to begin production and filmed it mainly in St. Louis, Missouri, on an estimated budget of $6 million. Debra Hill and Larry J. Franco served as the producers. The film was co-written by Nick Castle, who had collaborated with Carpenter by portraying Michael Myers in Halloween. Released in the United States on July 10, 1981, the film received positive reviews from critics and was a commercial success, grossing more than $25 million at the box office.

The film was nominated for four Saturn Awards, including Best Science Fiction Film and Best Direction. The film became a cult classic and was followed by a sequel, Escape from L.A. (1996), which was also directed and written by Carpenter and starred Russell, but was much less favorably received.

I just finished watching Captive State (2019) -a sci-fi thriller with a star-studded cast. I found the plot hard to follow as you really need to watch very closely and a few too many dark scenes to comprehend.

The film stars John Goodman, Ashton Sanders, Alan Ruck and Vera Farmiga,
the plot follows a young man who participates in the Phoenix ‘Chicago’ resistance who conspires to rebel against an alien race that has invaded and occupied Earth, the aliens enforce strict martial law on all humans. If you disobey you are either liquidated or taken off-world as slave labour.

We never learn where the aliens are from or what exactly are their plans? Average scifi film watched online 👍 tagline of the film ‘Light a match. Ignite a war. #covidlockdown2021

Nicolas Cage's latest offering, Pig (2021), doesn't live up to the hype.

I feel like most of Cage's previous indie releases outshine Pig in a lot of ways. I think the trailer hyped the movie too much. Oscar worthy performance by Cage (always except for The Wicker Man) but the screenplay renders the movie monotonous and the film itself doesn't fall short of "I Have Seen It All Before".

The Rating: 2 out of 4.

A young African-American boy must arrange enough money to pay his landlord and also for the treatment of his ailing mother. He joins the local robbers gang and goes to steal money from his landlord's family who lives in a huge and highly secured mansion. When he gets inside, he discovers something that he didn't expect.

The People Under the Stairs (1991) Review

This is a very popular and talked about Wes Craven movie from the early 90s. Though I have got mostly positive reviews about this one, I personally didn't like it that much. It's supposed to be a 'Dark Comedy', but the comic elements in the movie seemed forced and ineffective, in my opinion. It's a bit too long and at times felt dragged....but, yeah, some parts of it are genuinely thrilling and entertaining. To be honest, it isn't my cup of tea overall.
